What is the nicest thing you’ve done for yourself lately?
If you're struggling to find an answer—nervously laughing, feeling a lump in your throat, or suddenly blinking back tears—you’re not alone.
This question reminds us of something we often forget: ourselves. In a world where stress is the norm and burnout is a badge of honor, prioritizing yourself can feel unnatural—selfish even.
Years ago, when this question landed in my lap, it didn’t just catch me off guard. It exposed me.
By all appearances, I was living the dream.
I had just bought my first home. My nursing career was thriving. I was in school to become a nurse practitioner. I had the body I always wanted, a social circle so big I never felt alone, and I was in love.
I was checking every box of success.

Or Was I?
Beneath the surface, my dream life was destroying me.
In order to “thrive” as a nurse, I sacrificed my well-being to a system that exploited my passion.
The body I worked so hard for? Maintained by an eating disorder.
The love I believed in? A lie.
The friends I surrounded myself with? Most kept me around when I was useful.
But I was so deeply invested in this illusion that I ignored every red flag—even the ones my own body was waving.
Ready or Not…
I couldn’t hide. Destiny had decided: it was time to end my era of self-sacrifice and stand in my full power.
But growth didn’t arrive as a gentle whisper—it stormed in, flipped the table, and handed me a new script.
It was an adventure—part plot twist, part divine comedy. One moment, I was navigating the familiar grind of my nursing career. The next? I’m a patient, in and out of the hospital where I worked.
There were moments that tested me. Moments that stretched me. And moments so bizarre, I had to laugh. (A car in a ditch? Check. A near death experience?, also check. Firefighters in my house? You get the picture.)
But even in the wildest moments, I knew one thing for certain: I was never lost. I was being led.
Because with every experience, I found a new piece of myself. My intuition sharpened. My gifts awakened. I started to see beyond what was happening to me and into what was happening for me.
And that’s when everything changed.
